Root Resorption: What Every Dental Practitioner Must Know

Is the incidence of root resorption increasing or has our ability to detect and measure root resorption improved? With the increasing popularity and availability of aesthetic orthodontic appliances, more and more dental practitioners are moving teeth in their practice without fully understanding the related risks. This course will review the causes and implications of both external and internal root resorption. We will discuss treatment protocols for addressing infective, invasive and trauma-induced tooth resorption.

Bios:
Dr. Alison Fields received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2004 from the New York University College of Dentistry in New York City. She completed a General Practice Residency in the Oral Surgery Department at New York Presbyterian Hospital at Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She completed her specialty training in Endodontics at New York University College of Dentistry in 2007.  Dr. Alison Fields maintains an Endodontic practice in Thornhill.

Dr. Brian Laski received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Toronto in 2005, graduating with the Dean’s gold medal for excellence. After completing a hospital residency at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Brian completed his orthodontic specialty training at the
University of Toronto. Dr. Brian and his father, the late Dr. Sol Laski, were the first parent-child team to graduate from that orthodontic program. Dr. Brian maintains two orthodontic practices in Toronto where he focuses on aesthetic treatment options for adults and teens alike.

Dr. Maz Moshiri

Bio:
Dr. Maz Moshiri maintains his private practice in St. Louis, MO alongside his father and sister. In addition to leading multiple Ask the Expert webinars, Dr. Moshiri has led peer to peer clinical lectures and Clear Techniques II courses throughout North America, and was a lead educator for the launch of both the Class II protocols of Invisalign G4 and the Deep Bite Solutions of Invisalign G5.  He founded The Aligner Intensive Fellowship, a 4 month residency for orthodontists who wish to learn to use Invisalign to its full extent. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Saint Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education, where he developed and now teaches a clinical focus on the use of Invisalign. Dr. Moshiri is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a Fellow, American College of Dentists.

Dr. Jeff Glaizel

Digital Dentistry 101 – The Basics

This lecture will provide the audience with the fundamentals of digital dentistry. Basic concepts will be defined such as what it means to go; digital, paperless or chartless. Ownership of data and meaningful use of data will be discussed in relation to the private practice office. An overview of regulatory and healthcare system guidelines legislation will be completed.

Big Data and its’ relation to organized dentistry both nationally and provincially will be discussed. We will also identify the implications of big data on the practice of dentistry.

Building upon those concepts we will then be able to understand the components of a digital office and how the dentist can make sure they are supported. We will be discussing how to secure your digital office specifically looking at access, backups and encryption. Current threats such as “ransomware” will be discussed.

Lastly we will look to how your digital office communicates with the world through various sources including email, portals and social media.

Through this interactive course the audience will obtain an understanding of their risks of using digital technologies and mitigation strategies to enable the dentist to have continuous operation while staying in compliance with privacy, security and regulatory legislation.

Bio:
Dr. Glaizel currently serves as the Senior Business Lead, Venture Development at www.otn.ca. In this role Jeff is developing external partnerships and working with an amazing and talented team to improve the healthcare system in Ontario. Utilizing and creating new innovative procurement methodologies we are working to evaluate and enable proven Outcome Based Virtual Health Solutions to be used in the mainstream of healthcare.

Dr.Glaizel developed, designed, implemented myDDSnetwork; a secure web based dental referral and consultation network. The myDDSnetwork platform has been utilized in a health care project in Ontario to facilitate the secure electronic transfer of patient information from hospitals to medical doctors’ offices. Dr. Glaizel has also been contracted to provide consulting services to the health care industry in Ontario.

Dr. Jeff maintains a private practice dental office in Toronto.

Dr. Glaizel was a member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (provincial regulatory body) working group for electronic dental records. He is currently a member of the American Medical Informatics Association and the American College of Legal Medicine.  He consults groups on electronic record keeping privacy and security, health care workflow and interoperability of health care records. Dr. Glaizel received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Toronto in 2001.

One of Jeff’s goals is to enable secure knowledge transfer for patients, providers and stakeholders in a person centric health care system.

Dr. Sonia Palleck

Solving the Patient Puzzle: Digital Orthodontics with Insignia

Every patient presents to us as a puzzle to be solved. Traditionally orthodontists have been taught to study the problem at length and imagine a solution in our minds. Standard appliances are applied which require us to work out the shortfalls of the system in the patient’s mouth, hoping to gain an acceptable result in an acceptable amount of time. Insignia allows us to change our focus and requires us to reverse our thought process. By developing a clear solution prior to initiating treatment and working with an appliance system that more closely approximates the goals of treatment for the patient, we can work more effectively and efficiently. Join Dr. Palleck as she demonstrates how using Insignia and starting with the end in mind unlocks the patient puzzle.

Bio:
Dr. Palleck is a two-time graduate of the University of Western Ontario (UWO), having completed her dental program then receiving her masters in orthodontics there. In private solo practice for 19 years, she is also a clinical instructor at UWO and has served four terms as president for the Oxford County Dental Society. With special interest in office systems and digital orthodontics, specifically Insignia, she has lectured internationally in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. She has focused on treatment efficiency and has worked with micro-pulse and light technology as well as micro-osteoperforation to study the effects on treatment time with custom appliance therapy.
